Many people think sharing too liberally on Facebook is not for them, thus opening a a place for startups to provide secure and private social networks in various niche categories. The family space is one of those growing industries and 23snaps is an iOS and Android application that works like a mini-Facebook for status, photo and video updates but through only a private and secure channel.
Although it doesn’t have all the features of Path or Facebook, it is a easy-to-use intuitive interface that keeps your child’s life only within the view of friends and family instead of everyone found in a social circle. Although not the most original app, it does breed a lot of the familiar elements from Facebook with a “News Feed”, a slide out menu, and friend/family connectivity – but we think that probably is by design to ensure the transition to their private social network is as seamless as possible.
While Facebook is all about sharing, so is 23snaps, but there is a feeling of discontent amongst parents to share their child’s pictures and videos on the popular networks. To that, not everyone wants to see every detail of a child’s life fill up their News Feed on Facebook. 23snaps becomes an interesting alternative to keep track of all your child’s media without the “uncool” feeling of posting too much family-centric images on Instagram or Facebook.
Despite the prevalence of social networks and photo sharing sites, there is no platform that successfully supports the needs of parents who want to upload and privately share photos of their children. 23snaps mission is to help families chronicle and share the experience of watching a child grow. They do this by creating a simple, beautiful, and intuitive app that allow parents to capture photos and videos of their children, and share that content with a select group.
23snaps differentiates itself with a focus on privacy, functionality specifically relevant to family photo sharing and providing a range of sharing options that allow even the least techy family members to stay involved. With added features such as photo-filters, album collections, real-time updates, and more to come the 23snaps is a growing community and a startup that understands there is a place for private networks if positioned and focused appropriately with simple yet familiar design elements.
