Europeans they say work to live, while North Americans live to work. If you fall into the latter then the Bandu watches could be the cure for stress that impacts many every day. Alerting and reminding those that adorn the new wristwatch to relax, Bandu watches can help the 40 million Americans diagnosed with clinical anxiety.
200,000 prescriptions for sedative drugs are written out each year, but people still are inflicted with stress. Pressures of building a startup, balancing work and family life, or general fatigue can all play roles in impacting entrepreneurs and people in general. To help deal with this, four neuroscientists from MIT built a prototype watch that senses and monitors perspiration, respiration and heart rate along with movements to determine ones’ stress mode.
When the Bandu watch detects stress, it flashes a message to the wearer, reminding them to relax, take a break or slow down. By providing simple tasks such as ‘take five deep breaths’ or ‘play a song’, The Bandu gives informative cues to help bring down bodily stress to manageable levels.
All the data is then compiled into an app for further analysis and helping Bandu figure out what stress relief techniques work best for you. Sadly it didn’t meet funding goals on Indiegogo, but the idea is targeting a clinical problem that doesn’t have many options. Being aware of stress can help many, and pin-pointing the cause of a problem is just as important as the solution. The Bandu watch didn’t make it, but there is an opportunity here, can you think of a solution that would be worthy of funding?
