Created by South Korean designer Eun Hee Jo—the Surface Matters sound system is minimalistic design at it’s finest. The speakers look to be without buttons but the controls are hidden amongst its well thought out design. Under the designs elastic fabric overlay seemingly invisible sits the user interface that come to light once the center of the tactile control interface is pressed.
Gesture controls were also built into Eun Hee’s design where swiping adjusts the volume, circular motions allow for changing of tracks, and the equalizer can also be monitored. The project was commissioned by the Design Museum, which holds the annual Designers in Residence program to celebrate new and exciting designers.
