Writefull is a new application that works with your favorite writing apps such as Word, Safari or Text Edit to help give you language support. Providing guidance on how often used is your passage, alternatives to your word selections, and compares various wording solutions Writefull aims to make you a better writer by being more efficient in your normal processes when overviewing writing assignments.
Harnessing the power of over 5 million books on Google Books and the web, you simply select a chunk of text when writing, initiate the Writefull tool and choose one of the five options. Option number one lets you see how often your chunk of selected text is used in the database of either Google Books or the web. Thus giving you an idea of how well written the script is. The second option lets you compare your currently used chunk of text with an alternative of your own thought to see what’s most popular.
But if seeing how popular your writing isn’t enough, the other options within Writefull provide alternative examples from writing “in the wild”. Seeing examples in context and finding alternative words in context both provide inspiration on how to better execute your sentences which will surely inspire new thoughts. Using a thesaurus to find alternative words is also another add-on to Writefull that is quite powerful. We’re very used to highlighting text and then searching in our writing editor or on Google for solutions. But by using the writing application you simply add enclose a word with a “*”, select a chunk of text and then explore options with similar meanings with popularity results as well.
With a writing assistant app that uses Google Books or the web (you choose the results) does rely on an Internet connection in order to take advantage of its power. A slight drawback to those that like writing while being off the grid and searches enabled by Google Books is also limited to only 5 tokens (letters, numbers, hyphens and apostrophes) and English searches—small limitations to an otherwise incredibly useful application.
