The ease of use of WordPress is why many of us turn to it as a CMS of choice for any type of website. Even New-Startups.com is built on WordPress for many reasons, but we can be assured for many it’s because of the large repository of available themes and the ease at which plugins can be installed to build a more fulfilling website.
Maybe you’re looking for a script similar to Medium that lets you highlight text which can be shared, or a Mailchimp subscriber form, or a static sharing bar, Filament makes it easy for you to pick what design element you want to add and even easier to get it into your site design. The website itself describes why they wanted to include an easier way to install plugins or as they call them apps:
“As a team of designers that are passionate about web experiences, we believe that everyone would benefit from a better web. In order to create it, everyone should have access to great web design and be empowered to provide a good experience to their visitors.”
Take for instance the Ivy app, this app as we mentioned previously is similar to what you see on Medium. When installed users of your site will be able to highlight text and then have a popup appear that allows the highlight to be a shared. With a beautiful design and slick animation sequence it’s an effective tool to get more exposure for a blog on social media yet would be a bit difficult to create from scratch.
Once you select Ivy to be installed onto your site a dashboard opens up for you to decide how to customize the application: what page it should go on, your twitter handle, and maybe even hashtags to accompany user experiences. Once done you drag the application to the main site page and decide if you want the app applied to all pages or just one in particular. Then the most difficult part (insert sarcasm here), a script tag is given to you to paste into your HTML or CMS. And it’s live.
A way to customize apps to install into your own website that’s simple, easy and a well designed experience itself, it’s time to signup.
