SleepWake is a wearable app (for Android, AppleWatch) that alarms when you are too drowsy to drive. It works based on your heart rate. Machine learning is used to analyze heart rate series (similar to a sound wave) and detect the patterns that belong to a drowsy person.
Algorithms used to analyze HRV follow recommendations of European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE). The current accuracy rate is more than 90%. The app will adapt and get better down the track when you supply your heart rate patterns and confirm its tracking results.
How is background monitoring done? Does it drain the battery?
SleepWake tracks your movements and heart rate patterns to realize when you starts to get sleepy, it then increases the number of reading times to cover more often. On the other hand, it scales down monitoring sessions when you just wake up after a good sleep. By intelligently triggering sensors at the right times only, SleepWake conserves the watch battery. A fully-charged watch can usually run a whole day long with SleepWake running in the background.
Disclaimer:
SleepWake is not guaranteed to stop you from falling asleep while driving and should not be relied on to do so. SleepWake is NOT liable for any accidents or injuries that may occur while using SleepWake. Be sure to be well rested and comfortable before driving, and keep your eyes on the road.
