Let’s meet Startup, GitPrime:
Website: www.gitprime.com
In a few sentences, tell us what your start-up is all about!:
GitPrime is productivity analytics for software teams.
In any organization the Sales, Marketing, and Customer Support teams all have objective metrics to measure effectiveness. Yet in software development, management has remained subjective and arbitrary. It’s been difficult, because you can’t just count lines of code, and story points and tickets only tell part of the story.
GitPrime helps engineering leaders bring concrete data into discussions for the first time.
We provide reporting based on the code to highlight work patterns, identify team- and developer-specific areas for improvement, and offer concrete data to stakeholders on engineering progress.
When was your startup founded? And what stage is your startup currently at?:
We began in 2015 and closed a seed funding round early that year. We participated in the Y Combinator Winter 2016 batch.
Let us know a bit about your team, who are the key team members and what is their role?:
Travis Kimmel is the CEO, co-founder and product visionary. He was previously a software engineering manager and saw the need for objective reports to communicate about engineering progress.
Ben Thompson is co-founder and oversees design and customer experience. He previously ran a successful branding agency.
Vincent Driessen is the CTO and best know as the creator of git-flow
If applicable, what is your growth like? And what milestones has your startup achieved so far?:
Although we do not share specific growth numbers, we have sustained double-digit month-on-month paid growth since January 2016.GitPrime moved out of beta to for a public launch at Y Combinator demo day in March 2016.
Why did you choose this particular idea and concept to build your start-up on?:
While working as a software engineering manager, Travis experienced the pain on a daily basis. Compared to any other division in an organization, the lack of visibility or metrics in software engineering make it very difficult to manage.
As David Kirkpatrick of Forbes famously said a few years ago, “Now every company is a software company.” It’s not hyperbole to say, the entire world needs our product.
We are obsessed with bringing transparency and visibility available to all engineering organizations.
Do you have any customer feedback on your product and/or service that you could share?:
We hear things like, “this is a game-changer for our industry,” or “this is the data I’ve been wanting for my entire career.” On average, customers report back an increase in team productivity by 20%.
One of the highest compliments we receive is when a customer tells us GitPrime is permanently a pinned tab in their Chrome browser.
Are you looking for funding or are you open to partnership opportunities, and if so, what’s the best way for people to get in contact with you?:
We are open to partnership opportunities and subsequent funding. Interested parties can contact Travis directly at [email protected]
Finally, do you have any other comments or information about your product that you would like to add?:
For many companies, the engineering team is their largest expense and most important division. But engineering management is stuck in the stone age.
With GitPrime, engineering leaders now have the visibility and the tools to bring data into engineering conversations — to help engineers reach their potential, and to bridge the gap with non-technical engineering stakeholders.
