Website: www.sunsprite.com
In a few sentences, tell us what your start-up is all about!:
A non pharmacological method of treating depression, both seasonal and clinical through the use of bright light first thing in the morning. Our tracker, Sunsprite, allows someone to gauge their dose of bright light while walking outside or sitting in front of a light box and saves their data on their smart phone. Over time, users can notice the beneficial effect bright light has on their state of mind. It affects both mood, focus, and energy level.
When was your startup founded? And what stage is your startup currently at?:
We started in 2013 and we have created the hardware, software, and have at least 2,000 users.
Let us know a bit about your team, who are the key team members and what is their role?:
Our founding team consists of two psychiatrists, three engineers, a marketing consultant, and a serial entrepreneur. At present, we have a leaner team of two of the founders and a marketing consultant.
If applicable, what is your growth like? And what milestones has your startup achieved so far?:
We successfully have brought the product to market and have received a variety of rewards including Innovation of the Year for Popular Science in 2014, Mashable Top 5 Health Trend in 2015, and Berkeley top 50 wellness products for 2016.
Why did you choose this particular idea and concept to build your start-up on?:
As psychiatrists, we did not like all of the side affects associated with medications. Additionally, we had used bright light therapy with patients, but needed greater precision in helping people to know the proper dose.
Are you looking for funding or are you open to partnership opportunities, and if so, what’s the best way for people to get in contact with you?:
We are open to partnership, but don’t need funding at the moment. The best way to get in contact is email to [email protected]
Finally, do you have any other comments or information about your product that you would like to add?:
The light tracker allows people with circadian rhythm disorders to re-establish a stable circadian rhythm. Recent research has shown that circadian rhythm disorders are relevant to both medical and psychological good health.
