Codecademy, founded by Zack Sims and Ryan Bubinsky as part of the latest Y Combinator batch, is a totally free, easy-to-use and fun way to learn code. I know, I know – coding can never be fun, but that’s usually because it involves reading books, going through monotonous tutorials and articles or shelling out hard earned money for instructional videos. Codecademy, with its fresh and easy to understand interface, hopes to be the answer for those looking to be the “tech” involved in any part of their entrepreneurial lives.
This site will give anyone the opportunity to learn basic programming skills by being so simple to use. When you enter the site you are hit with your first programming lesson, and after a few more lessons you’re prompted to signup or risk losing all your programming work (pretty smart registration process, who would want to lose all their hard work).
The web based application hand holds you through the basics of JavaScript, and although the lessons currently available are not of a large capacity, the potential is enormous. As a platform for anyone to easily understand the basics of a coding language (in this case JavaScript) it truly is a valuable tool. If you’re just starting out and trying to learn code, check out Codecademy.
