Launching in East London, the Amazings is a new social enterprise that lets those that have retired or are about to retire hold an experience and teach what they have learnt on a variety of topics through their amazing life experiences. The Amazings provides a platform, handles signups, advertising and payment processing so the retiree has to just hold the life lesson excursion / adventure – and get paid for it.
Founded by Katie Harris – Project Lead, Nikki Sherry – Design Lead, and Katy Koren – Events Coordinator, the trio helps retiree’s turn something interesting that they are fond of into an activity for others learn from. These activities can be anything from knowing how to make jam to street photography. To participate in an activity tickets can run £25.00, but the opportunity for life lessons or the learning of new skills seems well worth the price.
The Amazings is a great idea because of its ability to bring together community and generations for the betterment of everyone. Not only does it bring people together to learn and be engaged with their surroundings but also provides an opportunity to add a new skill set in one’s tool box of strengths.
