Everyone at New-Startups.com is simply addicted to DrawSome by OmgPop, the game development company that was recently acquired for $200 million by Zynga, and it got us thinking: what is the best drawing / sketching app on the iPad? After testing a multitude of great ones, the one that stuck out from the rest was Paper by 53.
The stunning interface, ease of use and perfect set of tools allow Paper to “optimize the creative process” so we can sketch, write, draw, outline and color. The free app comes with just a fountain pen to draw with, but additional tools can be purchased in-app for $1.99 each or $7.99 for the essential kit.
New York based FiftyThree built Paper with the intention of keeping creativity at the foremost. The experience while using the app is immersive with no cluncky buttons, but for designers it will feel like you’re using a trusted friend – the notebook. Designs can be flipped through booklet (or what feels like iTunes Albums) style and end products can easily be shared over Tumblr, Facebook or Twitter. Check out some of the fantastic videos and illustrations created by users, showing what can be done with Paper:

Paper’s beautiful interface.
After testing many drawing apps, we found Paper to be the most like drawing in a notebook for creativity. However, obtaining the entire set of tools necessary to utilize Paper to its fullest is a bit expensive – in the end the abilities it provides is well worth the investment. Get Paper by 53 at the app store.
