Growing up there have been many ways to send or remember messages. Remember when tying a string to your finger meant to remember something important or when sending a message through snailmail was the best way to connect with another? From carrier pigeons to now emails, texting and cloud services as a society we uncover new ways to keep communications up to the minute.
HangMessage delivers a new location-based messaging ability as an Android and iPhone app where you can hang a message in virtual air at a specific location for friends to receive once they are there. Instead of using post mail, texting, emailing or the phone, HangMessage does something that we haven’t seen before – the ability to apply tangible real-life space with digital messaging to make getting a message fun again.
You simply type in an address, select their current location, look up an address or chose from a list of check-ins friends have made on Facebook or Foursquare to find where to “hang” a message. You can leave a special love filled message for another, pin a memorable location with a note for you to always remember, or send yourself a grocery list to pick up digitally once you get to the supermarket. Not only allowing for emotional connections but HangMessage gives practical applications to leaving messages for others. The countless times you’ve searched for a pen and a pad to leave a note for another could be a thing of the past, when instead you could just “hang” a message for someone to read.
“HangMessage beats its competitors by allowing their users to hang a message at specific addresses for their friends to pick up the next time they visit that location whereas most location-based messaging apps focus on chat room-like environments between strangers with similar GPS locations where anyone can leave and enter the group. With the ‘spyglass’, an augmented reality component, recipients will be notified of any unread HangMessages, which one of their friends sent the message and how far away the message is placed relative to their location. Using the provided map with walking and driving directions, users can go to that location to unlock the content of the message.”
HangMessage enhances the texting experience and creates more of a treasure hunt experience where a surprise message could be left for you or a friend at any turn. It’s available right now on the App Store and on Google Play.
