The thankless efforts of a team organizer can be overwhelming, annoying and frustrating. Friends, acquaintances and strangers over promise and usually under deliver, by just not showing up or being unreachable at the last moment before game time. Whether it’s a round of golf, a pick up game of basketball or run club the organizer usually has to email or call and downright grab by the ear to drag everyone to the venue. While the dragging by ear component isn’t built yet, Huddlers is a sports scheduling application for recreational athletes to schedule, game manage, communicate and media share their activities.

Founded by Adam Epstein and Ata Namvari, the Toronto based startup helps you connect with your recreational friends to decide on a location, find a time that works for everyone, send invites, confirmations and reminders without the numerous emails and texts usually associated with the task. While Facebook threads, emails, texts get the job done they all have pitfalls, number one of which is the cluttered and unorganized process.
Cofounder Adam Epstein sees it the same way “there is too much pollution in the other platform options and none of them are sports specific.” Huddlers optimizes sports communications aspect in our lives by enhancing how we plan activities. Adam and his cofounder Ata are the exact target market the app is built for, because they built it for themselves first. As members of organized sports, everyday they plan basketball games, tennis outings and run clubs but they shared the same problem everyone else had where planning their passions with friends was just a pain.
Their own solution was Huddlers and its now available across the world to discover new sport meet up opportunities, share their own, post scores and media, or simply ensure that everyone knows who will be at the event. Next steps for Huddlers are to implement more tools for team captains in mind, showing who worked harder by connecting to sports bands such as Nike Fuel, and a payment gateway to help organizers attain team member funds. And we hope they somehow find the ability to have the app grab all “yes” marked participants by the ear and drags them to the venue so the rest of players aren’t one person short.
