“Inspired by nature, providing you a coolness factor along the road.” Bamboobee is a Singapore-based bicycle company that combines raw materials with modern technology, offering the world’s first nature and technology-based handcrafted bicycle.
The company’s founder, Sunny Chuah, first built a bamboo-based bicycle three years ago and through the experiences of riding a solo cycling expedition around Asia realized the effectiveness of the organic material. “Riding on tough terrains during the expedition taught him a lot about riding comfort, bamboo as a raw material and bicycle design principles. I was also pleasantly surprised at how a natural material like bamboo can break language barriers to create conversations and bring people together.”
After perfecting the design through personal trial and error, Sunny spent years training artisans on how to properly build the perfect bicycle with the perfect type of bamboo for lifestyle riding. The Bamboobee Lifestyle Bicycle uses a bamboo frame with a trademarked and environmentally friendly process that infuses bamboo pieces with honey. “The Honey Infusion prevents bamboo from cracking, solving the world’s most common problem for bamboo-craft. The aesthetic value will last and therefore consumers can appreciate bamboo products for generations.”
All Bamboobee bicycles are custom-made with the option of three different bamboo materials to select from packaged with a 10-year warranty certified by international bicycle standards. GPS integration is also an option as well as SMS enabled security system that alerts bicycle owners if the bike is taken.
A pledge of $600 on Kickstarter will get backers the basic model. Although not the only bamboo-based bicycle on the market, let alone on Kickstarter, Bamboobee bicycles are more affordable and are dedicated to not only the art form of bicycle making but also the appreciation of nature and it’s balance to work with technology.
