Over eight years ago I had no income.
I left my highly successful job as an ex-pat executive & began my business startup from home.
Everybody says…
“You Would Be Foolish To Give Up a Steady Paycheck and a Corporate Job Security to Take a Chance on Something New…”
There was a time in my life when I believed if you worked hard and did your job well – your job was safe forever.
But…
I was completely wrong. I worked for a company where at one time, everyone was “family”. Something happened, and I felt this time it would be different.
I began to see where the employees stood…And I had no idea where I was going, but anywhere was better than there!
Slowly, with persistence and God’s help, I dug myself out from job & money uncertainties and just kept going.
Now that I’m a little older and experience.
I’ve had the privilege of getting to know the myriad of real ways to turn your genius to dollars and earn more, which I’ve done for the past eight years!
Most importantly, I learned success and how to achieve it.
Someone Out There Needs Your Expertise.
In my experience, almost anyone in any field can start a consulting or service-based business online.
People buy thousands of different things.
Maybe you have a knack for fixing computer issues. You probably good mixing drinks. Maybe you love decorating homes or maybe teaching yoga or meditation is your thing.
Even if you feel like you are NOT an expert on anything or no experience charging high-ticket products – in this article I will show you the potential to turn your genius into a resource.
Whatever you do in your work or even in your home life, whatever it is you’re an expert in something.
Here are my best 7 tips on how to turn your genius into a profitable consulting business startup.
Tip No.1: Don’t Make Things Complicated
Most new business owners were confused, overwhelmed by those 20- easiest ways to earn extra income from home.
And didn’t know where to begin.
I knew that if I could get some time showing this simple & practical process on how to seal deals using what you know (big or little), I’m certain that I would be able to help.
My initial approach was based on putting together what I know (my experience) and match it with what the market (my ideal clients) needs from me. Because I knew that I would only get a sense of real income if someone will pay me.
Tip No.2: Test Your Idea & Validate It
You want to wow your potential customers!
Then you need to research your potential customers because you don’t want to sell steak to a vegetarian.
What are the problems you expect that they are experiencing?
Talk to a small group of people in the field of your interest.
Listen to what they say.
Here’s the thing.
Employers normally look for people that they can rely on to solve problems that’s why people get promoted at work and trusted.
Same thing in doing business. All businesses are solving problems for people.
Ask yourself an extremely important question – what do people pay for?
There are several reasons why people buy.
To feel better, for protection, to earn more, saving time, better relationships, to look better, for security, or to have fun.
Tip No.3: Choosing & Eliminating
Choose the top 1-3 problems that you discovered and find out how you would solve these problems that match to what you know.
Here’s what I did. I contacted some people on Facebook, put my message, then I ask them if they are interested to sign up for my program.
They did.
So I put together the knowledge I have gained with the problem-solution proposition.
That’s how I grow my consulting business from struggling to make $100 per client to $10,000 per client, productized my service, and create a proven and repeatable system to attract more clients that nobody can take away from me.
Planning and structuring the problem-solving process can help a startup to be more likely to succeed.
Tip No.5: Use Your Existing Network
It’s crazy to see that most people who start a business they shy away from telling their family members and friends about their new business.
They keep their business a secret or they don’t ask for referrals from the people who know them best.
I must admit that I did similar when I started my own business.
Once you see people pay you in exchange for what you can give them, tell everyone you know about your business.
Ask them if they know anyone who might be interested.
A referral is powerful, especially for a new consulting business startup.
When I started exposing my business to my existing network, they not only hired me – they referred me without the usual lead generation dance.
And without showing my marketing website or a portfolio, in most cases.
Tip No.6: Offer Free Consultations
If you are selling any product or doing service-based consulting – customer testimonials can be a key factor to establish credibility to prompt people to buy from you or use your service.
But how to show results if you are just starting out?
One way you can do is to offer free introductory consults in your area of expertise but be selective on how you tackle a pain point to induce sales.
You’re delivering problem-solution based value, actually solving a problem for them, even a small one that matches your expertise.
Tip No.7: Increase Your Value
Getting clients is about relationships.
Sealing and keeping a client is about delivering reliability and consistency.
Never fake it because your company’s culture is a good reflection of your own values. And people buy if they feel they are safe in your environment.
If you tell the truth will take you far in life.
Here’s one of my favorite quotes “Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful” – Samuel Johnson.
Just think about what would be valuable to your potential clients and how you can provide it for them, be really good at it to increase your odds in landing a big client.
Conclusion
The fact is, you truly don’t know what type of product is accepted by the marketplace or how many units you can produce if you are just starting a business.
The beauty of the consulting business startup, you can enhance your problem-solving ability and earnings growth potential.
And the best part…
You can get started right away without a website, following, or any complex business plan in gauging what your potential client needs from you.
What I learned from this experience was…
Turning your genius into a successful consulting startup does not have to be as complicated as we tend to think.
In fact, it can be really very simple.
What’s important:
- See how the market reacts when you put your message
- Be visible ONLY to those people who need your help, and
- Provide the value they expect from you
