Time-lapse and stop motion movies are created by taking a series of sequential pictures and playing them back at a certain speed – creating a flip book type of effect that is quirky and whimsical. Frames is a new app that makes the process of creating time-lapse and stop-motion movies simple and fun on your iPhone in 720p HD.
Created by the team at Studio Neat (founded by Tom Gerhardt and Dan Provost) in Long Island City, NY who also brought us Glif – a minimalistic and elegant tripod mount for the iPhone 4 and 4s – Frames has been by far the best time-lapse app we’ve played with from the app store. The app was meant to work with the Glif; but what is remarkable is the intuitive and simple interface design that uses thumbnail-based navigation to make capturing a stop-motion film easy to understand.
The app is easy to use menus and visual interface lets anyone pick up the app and start producing time-lapse movie rolls instantly. With the ability to quickly adjust frames per second from 1 to 120FPS, a preview play button, and manual shutter usage via stop motion mode or automatic shutter for time-laps mode, the app and camera takes care of the fundamentals necessary to pull off a masterful time-lapse and stop motion production.
Because of the joy and interface simplicity that comes with Frames, it’s easy for us to say it’s by far our favorite movie production app – but what’s yours?
