If you’re musician, producer, artist, beat-maker or general music enthusiast you would of surely have heard of Pro Tools as the application of choice for many to produce the hart-tugging moments that affect our lives. But, if you’re new to music production and decide to fire up the music tool everyone talks about, you might be overwhelmed by the options and lack of ease of use without countless lessons required to be a professional.
That was our experience when we first tested Liquid Loops during its development stage, prior to its recent launch. As music lovers but without any understanding of how music was produced, opening up the application left us with the question “What do I do now?” But with some useful tutorial videos and a quick explanation of the process we were quickly putting together beats – that might be flawed to a trained ear – was magical to us.
Developed in Toronto by WaveDNA, which was founded in 2009 by David Beckford & Doug Mummenhoff, Liquid Loops the intelligent rhythm synthesizer and beat generator is the first software in a new suite of music generating tools that they hope will change the way music is created and recorded in the digital world. Using patented proprietary technology, Liquid Loops “Music Molecules” provide a visual representation of music to allow musicians to generate fresh ideas and create new loops of music quickly and efficiently. Check out the video below to better understand the concepts driving the software:
“Liquid Loops allow the user to quickly build rhythm tracks and loops, and then shape and generate variations with almost limitless variations. The user can also import their own loops and experiment with them using Liquid Loops functions. The resulting loops can be exported to be used in a wide range of standard software products.”
“Ideal for songwriters in need of an easily conductible rhythm section while working out new ideas, or electronic music producers looking to explore new rhythmic territories, Liquid Loops acts as an idea-suggesting companion for the creation of new percussive loops. “
You can catch up with the Liquid Loops founders at the CogMIR seminar on August 27, 2012 at Ryerson University where they will discuss the new software and how it revolutionizes the music production process. In the mean time check out the videos below to better understand the features found in the software and how to use the new tools:
