FirstLook is a new app from two of the founders of WireImage (which sold to Getty images for over $200m), including Steve Granitz, the world’s most published celebrity photographer for over 30 years. David Bohnett – founder of Geocities (sold to Yahoo) and head of LA-based VC firm Baroda Ventures – is also an investor and board member.
What’s notable about FirstLook is that it places entertainment photography, previously available through wire feeds and only to select, paying media, in the hands of entertainment enthusiasts consumers via their mobile devices – for free.
The Content: FirstLook has contracted relationships for over 25M current and archival images from top sources including Getty Images, WireImage, AP Invision and BFA. FirstLook photographers and partners don’t just shoot with the press pool, they shoot on the carpet, backstage, and more.
The Delivery: Photos are delivered directly to consumers in real time the moment they happen through the FirstLook mobile app.
The Audience: FirstLook is tailored to each and every user, giving them access to a breadth of content that has only been previously available to traditional press, yet customized based on each user’s preference.
Until now, consumers had access to the one or two event photos that People Magazine or E! Online decided to run of a given celebrity, and typically days after the fact. Now, entertainment enthusiasts have access to the top photos of every celebrity (including musicians, athletes, influencers or innovators), as they happen, from almost every event worldwide, curated down to the ones they care about and delivered directly to their mobile devices. There are over 100,000 celebrities to choose from, and users also get access to all of the archival images of their favorite celebrities from the above-referenced sources.
