As a tool to visualize interests as opposed to finding and sharing with friends, Pinterest has grown leaps and bounds recently to be a social-interest platform that can open huge opportunities for brands to extend their reach. But what if you wanted to know how influential your brand or your personal Pinterest account in general is doing? PinClout is a simple new tool “to empower people and brands with the tools necessary to monitor trends, understand activity, and gauge impact, easily.” In other words it provides a measurement tool to tell you your clout on Pinterest.
It does sound very similar to Klout, but according to the founders Chris Fay and Daniel Schimpfoessl: PinClout came about with very little to do with Klout itself. And as the site grows expect them to be adding some valuable new analytic tools to further dive into Pinterest Clout statuses and to differentiate themselves. The scores seem to be determined by a metric conceived by the PinClout team and we gather the 1 – 100 score is determined by total pins, repins, number of boards, likes, comments, and followers – with more emphasis given to number of followers and social interaction instead of pinning itself, followed by their mathematical magic. Chris goes on to tell us:
“At PinClout, we are striving to build tools that help you better understand and leverage the amazing potential of Pinterest for your image, brand, and business.”
You start out by simply creating an account on the PinClout site and providing your Pinterest username. Once that accomplished it begins to tally up your score. The average scores according to PinClout is approx. 29 currently – so we decided to give it a go with our just started Pinterest account and here’s our current PinClout:
